Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Mixing campy and shimano ??

Hi, is there a problem with using a campy cassette with a shimano derailleur? What about vise versa?? Can you use a 9 speed shimano/sram chain on a 9 speed campy cassette?

I know that the free hub bodies for campy and shimano are different...

Thanks!

I put an SRAM chain on my 9 speed Campy Veloce/Daytona bike this past summer. Works just fine. Whether an actual Campy chain would shift better or not, I'm not sure.

I don't think mixing the cassette and derailleurs would work well due to spacing differences. Haven't tried that grand experiment, though.

So matching the ratios isn't a problem, I just want to know if i can mix using friction mode downtube or bar end shifters...

Let me know, thanks!

If you use friction, I can't imagine why it wouldn't work.

In that case, almost anything will work. Just get the correct chain for your cassette.
