What I love about the 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 Brooks threads on the interwebz is the number of crazy things people do to try to break in their saddles faster. I recall a thread on BF where a guy suggesting submerging the damn things in motor oil, and of course, someone tried it and reported how his saddle was wrecked.

Old cowboys would take traditional western saddles and throw them in the water trough. Let it soak for a few minutes in the water and then ride them literally until they're dry. Then use fat-laddened greases like neatsfeet to get oil back into the saddle. What's it all mean? Ride the thing until it molds through sweat, heat and weight.
You can do the same thing with breaking in boat shoes. You soak them in water, then wear them until they dry.
