I use a Kryptonite lock with some cheap cable. If I am super paranoid about where I lock up I can pop the front wheel off and lock both wheels and the frame with the U lock. I use old chain wrapped in electric tape to secure the saddle. The saddle probably isn't even worth stealing but I would still rather have it be there every time.
I don't like to leave my bike out in public on the reg. It is a beater but if it is out there every day someone is gonna **** with it at some point. At my last job I got a bike locker rather than leaving it at the racks every single day. All the locks in the world are not going to stop some teenager from vandalizing your bike if they so choose.
Kind of off topic, but at my current job I keep my bike locked to a railing in the hallway shared by 3 businesses in the same building. There are big windows opening up into the hallway so I can see it from basically anywhere in the front of the restaurant. I am constantly amazed by what parents will let their children do to other people's property. Kids try to sit on a bike that is just as tall as they are, they climb it like a ladder, and the parents just look on like nothing is happening. When I go out and say something they always play dumb and then scold the kid like they didn't even realize what was going on. I know being a parent is hard, but watch your ****ing children when you take them out into public. The employees of whatever business you happen to be in at the time are not your babysitters.
