He definitely has the right to ask whatever he'd like...and, as you said, I have bikes I would only sell for a substantial markup on "market" value. If someone has an emotional attachment to this, sure...buy it. You don't have to justify anything to me. I am trying to point out that I think his asking price is out of line with what I'd perceive to be market value. Far out of line.
Not all transactions are rational...as a buyer or seller.
