Just to further the discussion, not too many people ride 300 miles on-stop.

You have a couple of options. "Loaded" touring is where you take gear to camp and possibly cook. "Credit card" (or unloaded) touring, you plan your trip so you spend nights with friends, hosts, or in hostels or motels. CC is obviously lighter than loaded, giving you the chance to rider further, faster.

Depending on terrain, a bike tourist can usually average 30-50 miles a day loaded, and 1/3-1/2 more unloaded.
