Update (and looking for advice)
Bike is working out OK. The ride is plush, thanks I guess to the tires and carbon fork. I haven't fallen in love with the saddle, but I am micro adjusting still.
I am surprised to find that the gearing is a bit tall for me, even on my flatish commute, though I often have a howling headwind.

I'm thinking about the velo orange triple crankset

The front shifter will handle it, and I have a long cage 6700 Ultegra derailleur hanging about if the 105 can't handlel it.
I just don't know enough to know if it will fit.
Any other suggestions fo ra similarly geared not-too-pricy triple?
