Bikes: Fisher Opie freeride/urban assault MTB, Redline Monocog 29er MTB, Serrota T-Max Commuter, Klein Rascal SS, Salsa Campion Road bike, Pake Rum Runner FG/SS Road bike, Cannondale Synapse Road bike, Santana Arriva Road Tandem, and others....

I have a 13" Fisher Opie that was built for just what you are describing and I love it. This bike is my "freeride/urban assault" bike that I rely on to "do it all" and it doubles as my winter bike as well. A compound seatpost is definitely an advantage because the seat can be dropped to the rear tire or extended to give full extension for normal use. To be honest, if I had to get rid of all but one of my bikes, this is the one I would keep.
