How about converting to 700c? My original '75 Araya were breaking spokes - the LBS's couldn't seem to get it right, and relacing was going to cost me $60 each and I was getting in a hurry. So I went to REI for the cheap $40 ea Alex, and had them tension and true and check the hub tightness. Only a hundred miles on them, but so far so good. And REI if they turn out to be spoke-breaking junk I'll get my money back... Later I'll put much better 700c and change my brakes to match.

BTW - I like my original rims, but they might be stressed funny, and didn't have the hooked bead thingie....so might have been a little risky to continue to run at much over 100 lbs after 37 years....
