+1 on this. I switched from running to cycling in my 40s to save my knees, and my BMD (checked yearly because of another condition) started to fall. As my doc explained it, cycling isn't really a weight-bearing exercise. I'm not able to run or walk long distances anymore (I can ride all day, fortunately), so I've added weights to my workout. Test coming up in a couple of months, so we'll see...
At least it's more weight bearing than sitting on the couch and eating chips and dip all day.
