I'm probably in the minority here, but I think flat bar bikes have several advantages ... as does running small panniers on the front only rather than the rear (not that you do that) ... therefore I think a solid-forked flat-bar MTB is the perfect choice for a year-round bike ... so
personally, it looks like a great bike and i'm sure that it will last a very long time
