Those were current back in the days of longer, non riveted protruding pins and thicker side plates so reusing the same pin was perfectly fine. They called them "narrow" chains but they were nothing like the current 8-speed + ones. I used those Sedis chains for several years too and never had any problems with them but they were different animals.
