Maybe some of knowing how to use the chain tool,
some in not forcing shifts in hard climbs.....
Those were current back in the days of longer, non riveted protruding pins and thicker side plates so reusing the same pin was perfectly fine. They called them "narrow" chains but they were nothing like the current 8-speed + ones. I used those Sedis chains for several years too and never had any problems with them but they were different animals.

Bikes: custom built, sannino, beachbike, giant trance x2

Why I don't understand is why anyone would use a narrow 10 or 11 speed chain on a SS... you could easily use one of the old Sedis Sport chains and be fine with it.

Bikes: RANS Stratus TerraTrike Tour II

As I have stated both my bents have master links on them, with a total of 15,500 miles with no failure. I also carry a spare master link with me for quick easy repair on the trails.

""Master links for current 8,9, 10 and 11-speed derailleur chains do not have an "open end". You are describing the master links used on old style bike chains and motorcycle and insustrial chains.""

Oh, were we not speaking of traditional master links for 1/8" chains? I agree when it comes to modern multi-speed chains such as SRAM etc, the included quick connect type master links are fine and I havent seen those fail, use them all the time!

Traditional master links have the habit of popping apart at inopportune times, I find, especially in situations of less than 100% perfect chain lines (i.e. adult 3 wheelers) or very tight chain adjustments (i.e. freestyle/flatland bikes, "fixies"). If there is anywhere the transition onto the sprocket is less than perfect it can catch that removable plate and pop it off.

On an unrelated note how do I make quotes show up in the nifty blue box?

Like this. Click on the "Reply With Quote" button under the posting you want to quote. Delete the parts of the quoted posting you don't want and then put your cursor under the close quite indicator. (the [/quite] tag but I spelled it incorrectly so the computer wouldn't interpret it as a tag.) Then type your reply or comment.

In fact, you may as well just use a generic 1/8" wide chain, as that will give maximum versatility in selecting drivetrain components.
