Schwinn didn't make any cantilever frame cruisers in the U.S. after the Chicago factory closed its doors in late 1983. The Greenville plant never made these frames.
I'll ask again, is there a small font, lightly stamped four digit number stamped into the head badge, and if so, what is it? Is there a number stamped into the driveside rear dropout?
In the mid-eighties, Ed Schwinn paid $2 million for a third share of China Bicycles (founded by Jerome Sze) in Shenzhen, mainland China. By 1987, China Bicycles was supplying a substantial percentage of Schwinn's units. Also, in the late eighties, Schwinn paid nearly a million dollars for a 41.5% stake of Csepel, a Hungarian bicycle manufacturer, and imported about 63,000 units from Csepel in 1990 and 1991, but I'm pretty certain your bike was made before that.
I think - based on eliminating other sources - that your bike was made by China Bicycles, but as I said in my earlier post, I'm not certain of that.
