OK, I removed the seatpost and greased it thoroughly, replaced it and tightened it snugly. Also tightened the drive side pedal although it didn't move much if at all. Also degreased and re-lubed the front and rear deraileur, pulleys and chain. Did a 22 mile ride on Saturday and THE NOISE WAS GONE. Ran it through both front rings and several gears with no noise. Not sure if it was the seatpost and still don't understand how that could affect was seemed to be a clicking in the drive side pedal. It will take a few more rides to convince me that the problem is truly solved but for now it appears to be. Thanks to all for the input and advice on what might have been the cuse and cure.
