I got taken off the road into the rocks at Hell's Gate in Death Valley last year. 50-60+mph winds, and out of ~600 entrants, about 180 of us started, and there were only 4 finishers.
The best part was that I couldn't get my steel bike to stay down so I could throw a leg over it. I'm holding the seat-tube and handlebars down, but every time I lifted my leg, the back of the bike flies up!
I finally checked up and down the road (no way to hear a car coming in that shrieking maelstrom), aimed the nose into the wind and started off down my wobbly way.
Mashing down an 8% grade in my 39/25 with my forehead on my handlebars, and I was barely going fast enough to remain upright. That was some wind man.
[Edit: haha--video above: "Yes, Michael, you do have the lightest bike." Glad I had my trusty steel sled for my day in Death Valley! hahaha]
