Has the wind ever caused you to fall?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bikes: All of them

I've came close to getting knocked over by insane winds on the Golden Gate Bridge, and seen 3 people get knocked over from it (one was my friend, and after I helped him up and we sat there resting for a few minutes, two more people turned the same corner and also got knocked down). Most of the bridge diffuses the wind, but when you approach the large pylons you have to take a little sharp turn around it and just get blasted with strong, cold ocean air. I knew from experience to expect the crazy gusts when making those turns, but a lot of people didn't.

I made the mistake of making a quick u-turn last year when I first started cycling. Problem was there was a 45 mph headwind, not too unusual where I live in the fall and spring. I was going slow so just went down on pavement in a cul-de-sac. So yeah, high winds is something I really have to deal with all the time. Also got blown off the road by crosswinds twice but was able to stay upright in the grass.

At the 2011 US Crit Championships, I saw a bunch of domestic pro riders go down because of 60mph wind gusts. It just blew their wheels out from underneath them.

That's happened to me on 93 outside Boulder. My teammate and I were laughing our asses off in the ditch. Trackstanding in Boulder in March is entertaining too.

I got taken off the road into the rocks at Hell's Gate in Death Valley last year. 50-60+mph winds, and out of ~600 entrants, about 180 of us started, and there were only 4 finishers.
The best part was that I couldn't get my steel bike to stay down so I could throw a leg over it. I'm holding the seat-tube and handlebars down, but every time I lifted my leg, the back of the bike flies up!
I finally checked up and down the road (no way to hear a car coming in that shrieking maelstrom), aimed the nose into the wind and started off down my wobbly way.
Mashing down an 8% grade in my 39/25 with my forehead on my handlebars, and I was barely going fast enough to remain upright. That was some wind man.

[Edit: haha--video above: "Yes, Michael, you do have the lightest bike." Glad I had my trusty steel sled for my day in Death Valley! hahaha]

Nearly happened to me today. I only had one hand on the bars and the other was holding a water bottle when a gust of wind hit me sideways and made my front wheel turn sharply. Was definitely an "oh sh*t" moment. I even said it out loud lol.

Bikes: 2013 Trek Domane 5.2, 2003 Specialized Allez Comp CrMo Ultegra

My daily 17 mile lunch ride is out and back on rural East/West highway. We get pretty stout winds in Nebraska and when I have a 25+mph 90 degree cross wind combined with a sand hauling dump truck, or this time of year a grain truck, meeting me at 65+mph, the wind blast is incredible. The worst part is the turbulence, not the wind speed. The buffeting is awful. I just get low and punch though it. I've learned not to fight it too hard, but to stay a little loose and let the bike float around if it needs to. If you don't ride in the wind in this part if the country, you just don't get to ride. It's just part of it.
