In 2006, I tried to ship a Bike Friday back to its parents (it was a trade for another BF) via UPS in just the Carlton suitcase, no box. I got to the counter, and they wanted to upcharge me for a "non-standard container."
I went home, got the original BF box, stuck the suitcase inside and readdressed everything onto the box to save the upcharge. No idea if Oops is still doing this, but it was certainly an eye-opener for me. I don't ship via Oops anymore, so if FedEx doesn't have this policy, yet another reason to use them for my cartage needs.
