yep , I read jobst's article too

Since manufacturers will probably ignore the issue forever;
my solution is to only use inexpensive square taper cranksets (typically alivo grade)
when it comes time to replace a worn chainring, the price of individual aftermarket rings is comparable to the crankset itself; thus I simply purchase the same crankset again

The pedal/crank interface wear problem is avoided/overshadowed by drivetrain wear.
The old crankset can then be sold/ used on a flipper bike to recoup some cost
