Uh, I searched the forums and www a bit and....
Sun does not shine in Campagnolo universe. New camp hubs are not compatible with 8 speed cassettes, so it has to be an older 8 speed hub/cassette combo. Rear derailers are hideously expensive. Cassettes also. Hubs too. And the wheel has to be rebuilt. Local used market is as always lacking campy parts, ordering from teh internetz would cost a fortune for all of this.
I bit the bullet and ordered
Shiftmate #4, I'll keep my ultegra/600 combo and just recable the bike and not worry at all

Are down tube cable stops all the same? I mean, if I understood correctly, they serve only one purpose, and there's no practical difference between Campagnolo and Shimano down tube cable stops, right? I only need to be sure that they are concave to fit my steel frame, flats are for carbon/alu frames.
