8 speed Campagnolo help/options.
I was really not into spending money on Campagnolo stuff, but I saw an auction on ebay for 8 speed Veloce ergopower and couldn't resist not bidding for it, just for the fun of it. Err... I won!
https://tinyurl.com/bhhjvpr
Now the fun starts - since I know practically nothing about Campagnolo derailers and ergopower. Especially dating and compatibility.
Here's the deal:
My bike has Ultegra 6500 hubs laced to Mavic CXP33 rims with 8 speed Ultegra cassette. The real derailer is Shimano 600 6208 series that can shift through whole 8 sprockets, though I use 600 downtube shifters in friction mode.
I know that:
Shimergo cannot work with 8 speed ergo on 8 speed shimano derailer and cassette.
I could buy the jtek shiftmate to compensate the pull and still use my derailer and rear wheel.
A Campagnolo rear derailer and wheel with campagnolo hub+8 speed cassette would work also of course.
And I need downtube cablestops in any scenario.
What are my options here? Is there anything else I should consider?
I know nothing about Campagnolo so I have no clue which hubs are compatible with campy 8 speed cassettes. For instance I could buy locally used Campy Vento wheels for 100 euros, and probably sell mine for at least that price, though Vento's have 10 speed cassette, can I put 8 speed cassette on it or?
Errr.. -> "8-speed Campagnolo cassettes will not fit on newer "9-speed" and "10-speed" hubs." - Sheldon Brown
I could sell my wheels, but the front one has a ding so it cannot be trued totally so I might not get a decent price for them in the end.
What about Miche? Don't they sell cassettes that are campy spaced with hyperglide "threads" so it can be fitted on a Shimano hub?
And finally, recommend me a Campagnolo rear derailer that can work with this ergopower.
Thanks!
ps: my bike's rear spacing is 130mm

Uh, I searched the forums and www a bit and....
Sun does not shine in Campagnolo universe. New camp hubs are not compatible with 8 speed cassettes, so it has to be an older 8 speed hub/cassette combo. Rear derailers are hideously expensive. Cassettes also. Hubs too. And the wheel has to be rebuilt. Local used market is as always lacking campy parts, ordering from teh internetz would cost a fortune for all of this.
I bit the bullet and ordered Shiftmate #4, I'll keep my ultegra/600 combo and just recable the bike and not worry at all
I'll post photos when I'm done hehe
Are down tube cable stops all the same? I mean, if I understood correctly, they serve only one purpose, and there's no practical difference between Campagnolo and Shimano down tube cable stops, right? I only need to be sure that they are concave to fit my steel frame, flats are for carbon/alu frames.

I'm running Mirage 8-speed shifters and Daytona rear mech with a Shimano 8 speed cassette. Whilst not perfect, it's adequate. Intend to put a Shimano 7-speed cassette on at some point. But at the moment, it doesn't seem necessary. This CTC article has lots of useful information - https://www.ctc.org.uk/cyclists-libra...gears/shimergo

If the JTek shiftmate works, I'd use it, as the simplest option.
I don't know about Zagreb, but 8-sp Campy wheels were not that expensive here, the last time I looked.
Many people here can advise you on mixing components. I cannot.
I always try to match 3 things: Shifters=Cassette. Then I relax.
Wheels Manufacturing makes 8-sp Campy spacers for Shimano 8-sp cassettes/wheels. $60
Miche makes 8-sp Campy cassettes, but not to fit on Shimano hubs.
https://www.ebay.com/usr/rutlandleisureoutlet this guy may be able to help.
I've used Shimano 8-sp 600 with a Campy rear wheel and 8-sp cassette.
It worked fairly well (a couple of centuries, no problems)
