We finally got some much desired snow. I'd forgotten so much. As I rode trough the fresh snow, I suddenly noticed how quiet everything was. The frying sound of the studs had stopped. "How could I have forgotten this?", I thought. I passed a large flock of Canada Geese swimming in Four Mile Run. Some had snow on their backs -- they must have slept out there on the water. I'd never known that.
On the way home, the almost-full moon lit up the white world around me. The studs fell silent again as I turned onto the last three miles of the trip. I saw the geese bobbing far out in the water, softly honking to one another.
This is what winter should be.
