Which generation of Bontrager Race are you talking about--pre-2009, with the paired spoke pattern, 2009-2012 with evenly spaced lacing, or 20013 with the wider rim profile?

The paired spoke pattern generally sucked except for the very lightest riders. I see a lot of rims starting to crack around the spoke holes. In general, once Trek returned to even spacing the durability has improved. The Races are not particularly light or especially rugged, but I've seen worse on similarly equipped bikes. If you buy a new set of wheels, keep the Bontragers around for winter til you bust 'em.
