This seems like a pretty foolproof method of layout, I've bent a lot of emt using it. BTW it is way easier bending 1/2" than 3/4"emt in terms of force applied, I'm guessing the same is true of stepping up 4130 in OD sizes.

Yeah, 2 cubed is 8, and 3 cubed is 27, so the stiffness difference assuming the same wall thickness to diameter ratio, is significant. My heavier bender has a compound leverage built into it.
