I don't think there is anybody on this forum who would disagree that the motorist is a dick. That being taken for granted, I do think the cyclist used poor judgment regards staying safe. When on the sidewalk I NEVER assume vehicles turning in or out see me and will yield. Not saying its right, its just the way it is. When a street is so unfriendly as to force me to the sidewalk, I scan the street and parking lots every driveway I approach. I don't think cussing out someone who you feel could whip your ass is wise. I do understand the heat of the moment, of course.

Granted that the OP should have used even more caution when riding on the sidewalk, but the callous tone initially set by the motorist basically set the stage for what followed afterwards. It just goes to show how lopsided a situation can get, and with a cyclist still ending up looking like the instigator.
