I have a set on my XC bike which is fitted with drops... it gives a better position for descents on more technical terrain and are also nice in traffic when you want to sit up and still want to have the brakes at hand.

I run Tektros... plan to install a few more sets on my own bikes and on my daughters road bike as she is still getting comfortable with drops.
