I have had good luck with Marathon + and Conti Gatorskins. We have goatheads in the river bottoms (Illinois and Mississippi). They attack en masse. Before I went to reinforced tires I tried sealant. I remember limping my bike home and getting sealant in the face with every rotation of the tire.

Get some good, reinforced tires.

I did have a broken beer bottle bottom destroy an almost new Marathon +. That sucked.
