Bikes: Custom Zona c/f tandem + Scott Plasma single

2 flat tires in 5,600 miles of riding tandem (on the roads) in the desert area of Tucson Arizona in one year.
Use the Maxxis Re-Fuse 700x25mm folding tires. Also Panaracer Pasela Tour Guards 700x25mm folding tires have given us same kind of resullts.
We use standard light innertubes and NO tire liners or goop.
Just our input/experience.
Pedal on TWOgether!

I have had good luck with Marathon + and Conti Gatorskins. We have goatheads in the river bottoms (Illinois and Mississippi). They attack en masse. Before I went to reinforced tires I tried sealant. I remember limping my bike home and getting sealant in the face with every rotation of the tire.

Get some good, reinforced tires.

I did have a broken beer bottle bottom destroy an almost new Marathon +. That sucked.

I just put some Mr Tuffies in my beater mtb. I keep it at work and ride it on the road shoulders during lunch. The shoulders are full of glass. I have several sets of tires to use up with the Tuffies installed. When I run out of tires I'll get some armored tires for that bike.

Another means of avoiding flats is vigilance. I can't imagine allowing myself to run over part of a bottle.

Easier said than done sometimes - especially those dark green buggers - v. hard to spot at night and when within leaves etc..

Or when you are watching traffic, trying not to get killed.
