The Salsa Casseroll was a nice equivalent, but they have quit selling them. All City Space Horse, Kona *****tonk and Jamis Aurora and Satellite Sport are in the same price range. Gunnar Sport is very comparable -- more expensive than the Soma but uses high-quality tubing and available in a range of colors. Also from Soma, is the San Marcos -- again, more expensive but a lugged frame with Rivendell design. There are also a range of cross bikes that could fit the bill -- Soma Doublecross, Surly Crosscheck, Gunnar Crosshairs, Kona Jake, Jamis Nova, Bianchi Volpe.

I have a Gunnar Sport and it is a great bike with high-quality construction; the Gunnar Crosshairs is very comparable. A friend of mine has an All City Space Horse, and it is an incredible bargain with a lot of nice features and high quality finish.
