Soma Smootie equivelents?
I was wondering what some smoothie equivelents are. Doesn't need to be steel, just like the Idea of a fastish bike that can fit a rack, be used for commuting or weekending.

Rivendell sells some similar stuff, lot pricier though.
Gunnar Sport,
Raleigh and Kona as well...
But why ?. If you want a road bike, that takes bigger tires, takes a rack, the Smoothie, or Smoothie ES are very reasonably priced.

The Salsa Casseroll was a nice equivalent, but they have quit selling them. All City Space Horse, Kona *****tonk and Jamis Aurora and Satellite Sport are in the same price range. Gunnar Sport is very comparable -- more expensive than the Soma but uses high-quality tubing and available in a range of colors. Also from Soma, is the San Marcos -- again, more expensive but a lugged frame with Rivendell design. There are also a range of cross bikes that could fit the bill -- Soma Doublecross, Surly Crosscheck, Gunnar Crosshairs, Kona Jake, Jamis Nova, Bianchi Volpe.
I have a Gunnar Sport and it is a great bike with high-quality construction; the Gunnar Crosshairs is very comparable. A friend of mine has an All City Space Horse, and it is an incredible bargain with a lot of nice features and high quality finish.

I have had my Smoothie ES for over five (!) years now. I still love it - feels like a part of me rather than something I ride on. I've replaced most of the components one or two times but have never had any problem with the frame, forks or bars (and the replacements had to do with wearing them out rather than problems). It's quick, reactive but a very solid commuter. It can do the downhill speeds AND the curb jumps. Fully loaded. I have a rack on the back which takes sometimes heavy Ortlieb bags and the bike keeps chugging along. It is worth the $ to drop on it, put good components on and it will last you a long time. I chose it over Surly.
