Regarding the FD/crank compatibility, I suggest contacting the folks at VO since they're the designer/mfr.

As to the Soma FAQ comment: That indicates (1) the frame has a seat tube with 28.6mm diameter and requires a FD with a matching size clamp, and (2) the cable routing to the FD is from under the bottom bracket, as is common with road frames.
