Thanks for the advice, guys! We've already swapped in a nice seat and tuned the breaks and derailleurs. It's a sweet ride as is. Getting the wheels trued will be next.
In case the wheels need to be replaced, what make and model would be compatible? The rear hub is indeed 126 mm.
