Today I rode to work despite thunderstorms in the forecast and managed to beat the rain. I was running late after throwing the fenders on the bike, so I was hauling ass.
Pulled up to a stop light with a car in the turn lane to my right. His window was open and we had the following (awesome) exchange:
"You make good time on that thing!"
"Thanks!"
"Yeah I saw you keep passing us over and over [Traffic was getting backed up so I was able to keep pace and then get ahead of cars at red lights] We're [gestures to daughter in passenger seat] thinking of starting to ride our bikes."
"You should! It's so much more convenient! Better than the CTA anyway."
"Haha, yeah, have a nice ride!"
Pleasant interactions with drivers are so rare, and one that complimented my speed? I was grinning for a few miles after that.
