If your read Brandt's second post in your link, you will see why. Rehydration and refueling go together. He makes the point further down that any fluid that has nutrients in it will take longer to work its way out of the stomach. I've also always said that if you eat on the bike, drink as well.

I stand by what I said.
Anecdotal evidence vs verifiable scientific data. I like to update my experience with new information. But that's me.
