This has been addressed in detail in many forums over the years and a more recent NY Times article. Gulping, not sipping, is generally the way to go. Not gulping a gallon, but a fair amount of liquid at a time. See following article. There is a lot of data out there : https://forum.slowtwitch.com/cgi-bin/...gi?post=369082

Mine comes from experience. Long distance riders have been doing this for decades.

If your read Brandt's second post in your link, you will see why. Rehydration and refueling go together. He makes the point further down that any fluid that has nutrients in it will take longer to work its way out of the stomach. I've also always said that if you eat on the bike, drink as well.

I stand by what I said.

Anecdotal evidence vs verifiable scientific data. I like to update my experience with new information. But that's me.

I find theory is often at odds with reality when it comes to riding a bicycle. Especially with something so variable as the human body.

In the broader sense, just look at the thread on statins. I suppose you dismiss people's claims of the incidence of negative side effects as just being anecdotal evidence that is at odds with verifiable scientific data.
