I was in your neck of the woods a couple weeks ago for the Greensboro 1000k. Some beautiful views, and I was pleasantly surprised at how polite traffic was on twisty hilly roads.
It's a southern thing...politeness. Lot's of bike riders around here. I think that helps.
There's also a little of "you ain't from 'round here and get off MY road" non-politeness. Luckily, very few of them.
