Yeah, i know he just asked for cheap, but I figured he'd want something decent and cheap.
I haven't seen it listed in a while, but the Motobecane Messenger (despite the lame name and decals) would be another decent inexpensive choice. I think they go for around $360, but include brakes.
I'd still get the Mercier over it though. (as an aside, I watched an auction for the exact same bike, but in KHS decals and colors, sell for alost $550 plus shipping.
