Speaking of (relatively) inexpensive track bikes, Andante's website seems to be down. I am curious if the company is still up and running? I know someone on the forum was awaiting arrival of one of their frames...

Yep, that's me. Got the frame a couple of weeks ago. Beautiful. Everyone who has seen the frame loves it. Currently, I'm waiting for some final components to finish up the build and some final tweaking.

Re website: I know from my last communication with Mauricio, that they were having computer related problems. Hopefully, the website will be back up soon.

It hurts when someone quotes you before you notice your spelling mistake and can edit it. In any case, thanks for the info, Jose - I look forward to seeing the bike when it's put together.

there were a couple 2004 khs flight 100's on ebay a couple months ago (half of list price), and i still see people selling 2000-04 models sometimes. i got an '04 and spent $150 on new handlebar, tires, and a brake and lever. i've had it for 5 months and 1000 miles and love it.

Damn, I was totally set on buying a pista... but that mercier just popped back onto ebay and I'm in the dilemma again... I have the money for the pista at the end of this week... and i have the money for the mercier right now.. Which should I get? This will be my first fixed/track ever, but I'm looking to be in riding for a very long time. I plan to be as knowledgeable as all you ladies and gentlemen, but I don't know very much right now. If anyone had any more comments on the decision making process that would be great!

They're on a lot. They go pretty quick though. You gotta check a lot to find them because Sprtymama seems to sucker a lot of people into buying them fast. :\

I went with the pista. *waits for the flames*

Alpha's seem okay on ebay; they'll run you $329+$40 shipping. While not the best, it seems on par with the other entry level track bikes available there.

I like ugly bikes, but man, those bikes just make me cringe.

Ick.

However ... the OP did ask for inexpensive track bike options, not good and inexpensive track bike options, of which there seem a far lower supply.

However, your correct.

oh yeah and they're ugly too.

Yeah, i know he just asked for cheap, but I figured he'd want something decent and cheap.
I haven't seen it listed in a while, but the Motobecane Messenger (despite the lame name and decals) would be another decent inexpensive choice. I think they go for around $360, but include brakes.

I'd still get the Mercier over it though. (as an aside, I watched an auction for the exact same bike, but in KHS decals and colors, sell for alost $550 plus shipping. )

heck, I'd probably buy an applecart bumbike before the alpha.
