Just a hunch though, your hypothesis has merits nonetheless.
My "hypothesis" is based on empirical data. I can clearly see that the cup is not screwed in all the way, such that there is a gap between the inner face of the cup and the outside of the bearing cartridge. Also, this BB assembly is identical to all the other generic 110mm JIS units such as the Andel Cobra that are in my other bikes.
Also, this BB assembly is flanged on the right fixed side, such that there is no adjustment possible the way the Phil BBs provide.
