If it took am M8 bolt I assume it was a single bolt "wrap around" clamp like the older Cinelli or Nitto models. All of the removable faceplate stems I've seen take M5x.8 for 4-bolt faceplates and M5x.8 or M6x1.0 bolts for 2-bolt faceplates.
