If you have any interest in maintaining a C&V steed in the stable, you could not do better from a practical standpoint. More expensive, more rare, sure (although I'm pretty certain that was the late '87 SS release due to customer/dealer pushback on the much more prevalent magenta and white combination & there are not many of those out there). But a better rider? Doubtful, unless your posterior is much more sensitive than mine.
Full disclosure: I own an '87 in this size as well as a bevy of Tempos, Prologues, Pelotons and Circuits, all likely made by the same group of nce Japanese ladies at National/Panasonic. They are all terrific bikes and I'd put them alongside any of the Merckx/Della Santa/Bottecchia/Serotta bikes in the stable for ride quality.
