that was my recipe last winter, and like a charm it worked. clips and straps, clipless-style shoes but without the cleats, wool socks and them insulated booties. and the balaclava and ski helmet and goggles for those <20°F mornings.
my only lament is the lack of studded tires in the 27" size. miraculously i never ended up on my aß, but a man only gets so many miracles, and then he ends up on his aß. oh and for now i will stick with 44:17, but i know the going gets tough in semi-packed snow.
