Back wheel goes in horizontal drop outs on that frame, so it's going to tighten with a nut rather than a quick release skewer. That's normal.

I'd buy the best trainer you can afford and then get a smooth road tire for the rear. Cheap trainers are terrible to ride on. Better to have a cheap bike and a good trainer than the other way around.
