Hi All,

I am new to cycling and during the winter the only option i have is to get a trainer and here are the things that i have got so far.

I have an old Raliegh M30 (see pics below) not sure which year it is made in. I am not looking for a costly bike.

From the pics it doesn't look like it has skewer in the back wheel. I noticed a lever in the front wheel though.









Also this bike has bulky tires and i read that they get worn out quickly on a trainer. Any suggestions on the bikes..

Back wheel goes in horizontal drop outs on that frame, so it's going to tighten with a nut rather than a quick release skewer. That's normal.

I'd buy the best trainer you can afford and then get a smooth road tire for the rear. Cheap trainers are terrible to ride on. Better to have a cheap bike and a good trainer than the other way around.

Thanks for your response. I am able to fit my bike with out any problems and able to ride it for some time.

Also what are the basic tools required to maintain a bike. I am planning to replace the tires and possibly tubes my self and clean and oil the main parts.

Could some one please suggest a place i can get the parts at a reasonable price.

whats wrong with a bike shop?
its a low wage, local job and they will be happy to see somebody..

during this the slowest part of the year. (in the northern countries) and so service turnaround will be quick .

Summer there is a service queue, to line up behind..
