I have a 2014 Giant Talon 29er 2 and I've been mainly riding it on the weekends for exercise and fun. Now, I'd like to start using it for commuting to and from work. Since I take the train to work, this should work out perfectly.
The one thing I'm trying to figure out is what rack to get for my bike so I can attach a pannier to it. I always have my laptop with my and I'd rather not use a backpack since I really can't have a sweaty back when I get to the office. Can someone point me to a rack that'll fit my particular bike? I've looked at Topeak and Axiom racks, but I'm just afraid that if I buy one, that it won't fit and it'll take that much longer to have to return it and find another one to buy.
The bike is a 29er with Tektro hydraulic disc brakes.
Thanks for your help!
Thanks,
Larry
Two things:
1) The bike doesn't appear to have mounting points for a rack's upper struts to attach to so you'll either have to use P clamps, a new seat post clamp with the mounting eyelets on it or something similar,
or
Just get a seat post mounted rack. These usually don't carry as heavy a load as standard racks but these are often mounted with a quick release so you can remove them easily and wont interfere with disc brakes.
2) You should consider how much bouncing around your laptop will do in panniers. The bumpy roads and vibrations can be rough on electronics.
