Help with shoes.
So I have a pair of Shimano road shoes (S-R107LL) They are size 46. They absolutely kill my feet, even worse on casual rides. Ironically, not so bad if I am riding hard, but even after 45 minutes or so they start to hurt. If I am not clipped in, they are fine, in fact they feel like slippers. It also takes a good 15 or 20 minutes on a casual ride before I notice any pain.
The pain is in two straight lines; one across the top of my ankle, not on the balls of the ankle, but in a line directly in between the balls and on top of the foot. The other just behind the toes and across the top of the foot. This is all on my left foot. My right foot is remarkably better, but does experience numbness from time to time.
Now I know this is a fit issue, and without a doubt with the shoes themselves. I normally wear a size 10.5 width 2E neutral running shoes. So off the bat the road shoes are a half size too big and too narrow.
SO I will be looking for a new pair, and was wondering if anyone out there with wide feet (and narrow heel) has any recommendations. My fear is dropping 200 or 300 on shoes, because they feel great at the LBS, but then get an hour in to a ride and the pain returns.
My style of riding is mostly for fitness. Not looking to race and sprint, however, i would like stamina to go for several hours. My typical rides are around 2 hours at moderate intensity.
Oh, and I use speedplays.
TIA.
