Help with shoes.
So I have a pair of Shimano road shoes (S-R107LL) They are size 46. They absolutely kill my feet, even worse on casual rides. Ironically, not so bad if I am riding hard, but even after 45 minutes or so they start to hurt. If I am not clipped in, they are fine, in fact they feel like slippers. It also takes a good 15 or 20 minutes on a casual ride before I notice any pain.
The pain is in two straight lines; one across the top of my ankle, not on the balls of the ankle, but in a line directly in between the balls and on top of the foot. The other just behind the toes and across the top of the foot. This is all on my left foot. My right foot is remarkably better, but does experience numbness from time to time.
Now I know this is a fit issue, and without a doubt with the shoes themselves. I normally wear a size 10.5 width 2E neutral running shoes. So off the bat the road shoes are a half size too big and too narrow.
SO I will be looking for a new pair, and was wondering if anyone out there with wide feet (and narrow heel) has any recommendations. My fear is dropping 200 or 300 on shoes, because they feel great at the LBS, but then get an hour in to a ride and the pain returns.
My style of riding is mostly for fitness. Not looking to race and sprint, however, i would like stamina to go for several hours. My typical rides are around 2 hours at moderate intensity.
Oh, and I use speedplays.
TIA.

Sidi 6.6 mega. That shoe has the adjustable heel retention device which allows you to dial in your heel fit. The mega is a wide shoe. They also make a "SP" verson,,,Speedplay sole. No longer do you need that extra shim.
Not cheap. But they do meet all your needs if they are wide enough. Mega is roughly EE/EEE.
Problem with people with foot shaping issue is they never quite work out that to get a good shoe is going to cost you a few bucks.
Also, wherever you get these ask if the fitter does cleat setups. Your symptoms also sound as if you do not have your cleats positions properly.
Tips: try shoes on at the end of the day when your feet are going to be more swollen. Know that if you go with this shoe, it is not leather but a synthetic. I'll stand in mine for five or 10 minutes, then retighten them when the synthetic material warms up some. Also, make sure you stand in the shoe to check fit.
Try shoes that are a big bigger and a bit smaller just for checking fit. You can have a wide foot with a low arch and that will impact fit as well...in addition to width and length.

Yup, my LBS (who is 90 minutes away!) carries them. I am sure there are a few other dealers in between where I reside and there, but it would be great if I knew who had a decent stock so I can try a few pairs and sizes on. I already asked my go to store and they don't stock the mega's but will order them. But i would like to try a few sizes and compare with a few other brands. They do have Louis', Giro's, & Scott's there as well but not Lakes.

Anyone have experience with Northwave. Was at my LBS yesterday and they were pushing those over the Sidis. The Sidis are quite a bit more with 200 dollar diff. Also, I am not finding the 6.6 mega stocked anywhere. I'd love to try a few pair on and I doubt the shop will order several sizes.
