This used to be my regular commute (Cherry Creek Path), and I've seen this condition as well. Makes having a pair of shoes at the office fairly important.
Something to consider (since I'm in an unsolicited advise mood this a.m.

) is that you can't always see what's in the water. Take care on deep water crossings, as it'd be a major drag to get tossed off your ride in deep water because you hit a branch, pothole, pavement seam, etc.
