Puddles?
So, I'm riding in Denver to work yesterday morning...it had been snowing/raining for a day or so and I thought I was outfitted to maximum warmth levels. I'm riding up a path along Cherry creek when I come upon about a block or two of submerged trail. The river has overflowed into the trail! I figure, what the hell, I can make it. So I start pedaling through. About half way through I look down and to my chagrin my feet are submerging in the river on my downstrokes! Crap...my shoes and socks were soaked to the toe for the remaining half of my commute. If I were still in Minnesota I probably could have lost my feet. Looks like I may need to look into a different shoe for commuting.

I did that once when the street flooded. However I was riding a recumbent at the time so my feet stayed up out of the water. I'm not sure any cycling shoe is sufficiently waterproof when submerged, however some waterproof socks maybe what you need.

Something to consider (since I'm in an unsolicited advise mood this a.m.
) is that you can't always see what's in the water. Take care on deep water crossings, as it'd be a major drag to get tossed off your ride in deep water because you hit a branch, pothole, pavement seam, etc.

I took a tumble on Friday when I went through a puddle that was hiding a section of old railroad track. So be careful. You also gotta love it when a car passes you in a puddle like that.
