Right, but no bike maker would ever use Shimano shifters, Shimano front derailleur, and SunTour rear derailleur. I bet Shimano wouldn't have allowed that.
It's hard to remember before Shimano had a stranglehold on all the bike companies. As late as 85, Trek specced their top end touring bikes with Shimano levers and brakes, Huret and simplex derailleurs and Maillard hubs.
