Maybe not salt on the roads (except for this winter, everyone freaked out "oh my gosh, ice!!" ).
People around here can barely drive in the rain much less ice.
I was just pulling your leg about no rust in Texas. But I know about the Gulf Coast. I have a home in Cozumel, MX which enjoys staggering humidity year round, with trade winds bringing salt air on a steady basis.

The island is missing it's true economic calling which is environmental testing. Nothing lasts, cars rust, refrigerator motors rot out in a few years, aluminum satellite dishes dissolve in 3-4 years, etc. The island has wide unpopulated areas where stuff could be left out to see how it survives.
